These are here to help us understand what
might go into a project, like a bill of materials. Some are here for reference only, and do not contribute to the total. The rows with zero quantity are alternative sources or versions of a part. This makes life easy if the primary source is out of stock, or we need to adjust some aspect of a project.
The best way to read this proposal is to start at the "
Totals" section, and follow the links for each line item back up to the worksheets to see where their subtotals came from.
Consumables
This is in cost per foot, the other cables are by the spool. All cables must be gel filled, flooded, etc... Solid copper wire is preferred, not copper clad aluminum (CCA). Search terms: Direct Burial, CMX, CMXF -> Flooded, Floodant, Gel filled

Small Network Switches
The fair uses (and looses) a few switches each year.
Since fixing network outages quickly at our three day event is important, our switches must at a minimum be pingable so we get an alert if they are accidently unplugged. Also we use VLANs everywhere so they have to support those also. This means we need managed switches. Lastly, we use
OpenWRT to make device management as uniform as possible, so we have a preference for ones that support
OpenWRT.

Backup VM Server
Last year we bought a new VM server to replace our very old one that was donated by a crewmate. Because it hosts many
mission critical applications, including the local copy of the Sushine DB, we need an identical backup server to take over if it fails.

Warebarn Storage Area Upgrade
Enclose the west overhanging wing of the Warebarn.
The IT and Communications crews need a dry, insulated, enclosed space with power, to store IT and communications equipment. The IT crew will use their portion for live network gear and battery backup to keep it running during a power failure. This is part of the push to make our network more reliable and maintainable, and is
mission Critical. The Communications crew will probably store high value items in their area. It should be on a poured concrete pad that closely matches the rest of the warebarn pads. Presumably this is all previously disturbed soil so that shouldn't be a problem, which was confirmed by DJ of Archeology when I ran it by him during pre-fair 2024.
There will be a dividing wall at about half the length of the enclosed wing to separate the IT and communications storage areas. Please get both Darren's and my sign off of this wall before it's placed. The height of the enclosed space should as high as practical. The IT side should have a hole over the door for an AC unit like the Hub NOC has. There may be a discussion on who gets which side of the space. p
Parts for VISA card and ATM machines
The visa runs will need some cat6 and a few radios to fill in coverage in those areas.
Peach Power Network Upgrade
It turns out that the best place for our reference GPS station is out in miss Piggy's on the Tickets West pole.
The current data connection to Tickets West is an old nicked, spliced, waterlogged, corroded, indoor only cable that was buried in the ground with no protection. It's a miracle that it's lasted this long. So in order to avoid a last minute emergency, we should jump on this.
