Battery Bunker Upgrade

Overview

If the fair were to upgrade the battery bunker, I have some thoughts to contribute that might help future proof it for years to come.

A new battery bunker (BB for short), should be larger, and include an outside area probably on it's west side. This area would have some AC quadplex outlets for the Elders to charge their wheelchairs and gadgets. There should also be an EV charging station either at elders charging or nearby. We should take a quick poll to see how many batteries are being charged at home, and come up with an estimated foot print for all fair related batteries, then double or triple that for the layout of the new BB. We may want to just extend the Hub roof from the peak out to the new outside wall of the backside of the hub.

Features:
  • 2 - 3 X current size, with a concrete floor.
  • Well insulated, but with air vents to release the hydrogen gas that may build up.
  • 3 - 4 rows of double wide shelves so you can access batteries from each side.
    • There is a slot along the center of each row for cables to go to the batteries on each shelf.
  • 2 20 A breakers per shelf row, with the option for separate 220V breakers per row.
    • a 120V 20A breaker for the outside elders charging area
    • A 220V 60ish A breaker to feed the EV charging station
  • Empty 2" conduit between BB and breaker panel.
  • Empty 2" conduit between BB and Internet closet (NOC)
  • Install a couplel of old baseboard heaters near the floor just to kick on when the temp dips below 40ish.
  • Perhaps an AC unit to keep it under 85.
  • A small workbench in the corner with some tools on the wall for maintanence.
  • A small utility sink.
